Exercise and Your Mental Health

Tucked into the beautiful town of Manotick, Ontario, sits The Fitness Lab; a small boutique style fitness facility that conducts group fitness classes for people of all ages as well as personal training. The owner of this studio is Adam (who also oversees two other locations in Ottawa near Leitrim and Kanata).  In support of youth mental health, and specifically DIFD, earlier this fall, Adam hosted a successful community event raising $ 1,844 for this important cause.

“The Richardson family has been very close clients and friends of mine for over 10 years now as I have trained Steph, Luke and Morgan and they became very good friends,” says Adam. “Initially, I wanted to donate to DIFD because of my utmost respect for the Richardson family.”

When asked about the impact exercise has on one’s mental wellness, Adam states, “This year has been an extremely hard year on so many. Being a personal trainer, I see first-hand the impact that physical health has on people’s mental health. Not only for myself, but also for many other people - fitness is an outlet.”

To support his community, Adam and the Fitness Lab initiated several community events.

“During the lockdowns, we opened up our Instagram page and offered free daily live bodyweight workouts every day for anyone and everyone that wanted to take part. This was something we decided to do free of charge and make it accessible to everyone as we saw the importance of mental health during these challenging times.”

The team at the Fitness Lab would like to continue keeping mental health at the forefront of their business and plan to host a DIFD day where they will invite the community to exercise at the Fitness Lab and all profits from their smoothies sales that day will go to DIFD.

Thank you Adam and the Fitness Lab for your incredible support to DIFD!
